Meet
Dominick Marino

I’m Dominick Marino, a public servant, recovery advocate, and community leader dedicated to strengthening Ulster County from the ground up. With years of experience in behavioral health, supportive housing, and crisis services, I’ve worked directly with individuals and families facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. As Assistant Executive Director of Respite Services at People USA, I oversee peer-led crisis prevention programs that provide real alternatives to hospitalization, helping people stabilize, reconnect, and move forward with dignity. In my role as County Legislator for District 10, I bring that same hands-on experience to public service.

I’ve focused on expanding access to mental health and substance use services, supporting first responders, advancing affordable housing solutions, and building partnerships that make our communities stronger and safer. This work is personal to me. My lived experience drives my commitment to meet people where they are, reduce stigma, and create systems that actually work for those who need them most. Whether it’s advocating for policy, collaborating with local organizations, or showing up for neighbors in need, I believe real leadership starts with listening, accountability, and action.

Winning the 2025 election was hard fought, and flipping a seat many had written off as impossible was a meaningful win for our community. But this was never about one race; it was about building momentum for real, lasting progress. Our work is just beginning, and as we look ahead to 2026, I’m committed to putting in that same level of effort to reach voters, stay present in our communities, and earn continued trust. At the same time, I’m working alongside my colleagues to govern responsibly and deliver results. We’re off to a strong and productive start in the Ulster County Legislature, and I’m focused on keeping that momentum going.

As a member of the Health & Human Services, Law Enforcement & Public Safety, and Housing & Transportation Committees, I focus on the issues that directly impact everyday life in Ulster County. Throughout my first term, I've worked to strengthen public safety, expand access to housing and mental health services, support working families, and deliver practical solutions that improve our communities.

I sponsored Ulster County's Gender-Based Violence in the Workplace Policy, providing stronger protections and support for employees experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and other forms of gender-based violence. I also introduced legislation supporting the implementation of the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP), an evidence-based tool that helps law enforcement identify high-risk domestic violence situations and connect victims with immediate, lifesaving services. In addition, I sponsored legislation supporting a property tax exemption for qualifying veterans in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

To help ease the financial burden on residents, I co-sponsored legislation to cap sales tax on gasoline during significant price spikes and supported increasing the county's shared sales tax with municipalities to strengthen local services while reducing reliance on property taxes.

Improving access to behavioral health care remains one of my top priorities. I supported the development of Ulster County's Crisis Support Center and continue working with community partners, healthcare providers, first responders, and county agencies to expand access to crisis services, recovery supports, and mental health care. Through both my legislative role and my professional work in behavioral health, I regularly help residents navigate housing instability, emergency services, and barriers to care.

Whether it's addressing the housing crisis, improving public safety, supporting veterans, protecting taxpayers, or helping residents access the services they need, my approach is simple: stay present, listen, collaborate, and deliver results that make a real difference in people's everyday lives.
